Our Story
When Aurie CEO Souvik Paul’s sister-in-law sustained a spinal cord injury after a car accident, she learned she would need to use single-use intermittent catheters for the rest of her life. But because her insurance didn’t cover the number of catheters she needed each month, she was forced to reuse old ones, which led to infections.
Souvik wanted to design a reusable catheter system that would not only reduce the chance of getting an infection from reusing catheters, but would also be easier-to-use and cleaner than the single-use catheters that most people get insurance coverage for. And that’s when Aurie was born.
Our Goal
Since 2018, Aurie has championed the perspectives of disabled people by designing products that help improve health, wellness, independence and freedom.
We believe the real product experts are the people who use catheters and ostomy supplies in their daily lives. That’s why we’re committed to actively partnering with—not just designing for—the disabled community to create systems that provide more options to live independently.

Souvik Paul

Souvik (pronounced Soh-vik) is an award-winning industrial designer and design strategist whose work has been displayed at the Cooper Hewitt Smithsonian Design Museum, as well as recognized by Core77 and the Industrial Designers’ Society of America. Prior to launching Aurie, he was a design strategist at Johnson & Johnson, where he focused on consumer medical devices.
Marjorie Nelson
(She/Her)Co-Founder & Chief Operating Officer
Marjorie has 17+ years of experience in the medical device industry, leading several commercial product launches in Coronary/Peripheral Arterial Devices, CT Scanning, OCT Imaging, Telemedicine, Medical Kits, Combination Drug-Device and Gastrointestinal Devices. After hearing from many users of intermittent catheters and caregivers about what it is like to live with the status quo and limitations associated with the current “standard of care”, Marjorie became passionate about championing the mission to raise the bar and break down the challenges they face.
Daniel Wollin

Daniel is a practicing urologist who has spent over ten years focused on diseases of the urinary tract. While he spends most of his days treating patients in the clinic and operating room, he spends his nights thinking about ways to improve urologic technology to better the lives of those he treats. While completing a MS in Engineering and Management from MIT, he was contacted by Souvik to discuss his idea for a novel method for improving urinary catheterization. From their first conversation, he knew that this idea (and the goals/design/philosophy behind it) could really change the paradigm for catheter users.

Sergey has a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, with a concentration in Fluid Mechanics and Energy Conversion and a M.S. in Mechanical Engineering, with a concentration in Product Development and Manufacture from Boston University. Sergey has 20+ years’ experience in medical device R&D at organizations including Becton Dickinson and Boston Scientific. Sergey is named on 6 Technical Patents.
